Necessity is the mother of invention. In Mike Ralph’s case, it is so true. The former Markham resident always had problems with his neighbors’ trash. He was living at the end of his street, and so, whenever there was a wind, the garbage was all over the place, and Mike had to pick up the trash every week.
So, he applied his mind and found a solution – his invention, the Trash Buster.

The invention is a hard-plastic dolly with 20-centimetre wheels to negotiate stairs and curbs. It has adjustable shelves to protect loose recyclables from the wind, stores three boxes vertically, or even a box and a green bin, and a recycling-blue colour scheme.

The invention is deceptively simple. But according to Mike Ralph, it will simplify recycling for the average homeowner. It almost stops wind-blown litter and makes transportation and storage much easier. Trash Buster can fit almost three boxes worth of trash withiin it.

Ralph’s neighbors are testing his invention for free now. It’s made in a factory in Brockville, and Home Hardware is selling it for $69. He is busy pitching his invention to the Municipal Councillors.

Still early days for the simple invention, but as everyone knows, it is not simplicity, but utility value that matters, and Trash Buster has plenty of it!
