News from New Zealand:
Sometimes, an invention need not involve bleeding edge technology to make a difference in people’s lives.
One such invention enables Ian Sadler, a man with cerebral palsy, to indulge in his passion for painting. His tutor, Karl Wulff, made a helmet for him, which could hold his paintbrush.
For creating the helmet, Karl used fiberglass, after making a plaster cast mould of Ian’s head. AW Trinder, an engineering firm, created a special apparatus which helps in holding the brush steady.
According to Karl Wulff, the invention helps strengthening Ian’s neck muscles, and should help in improving his ability to move.
